Public Forum with City Officials

On 1/18, Friends of Midtown will be hosting David Patton, Deputy Director of Codes and Ernie Hoch, Public Works Director, at a public forum at the Heinz-Menaker Senior Center. City residents will have the opportunity to ask questions related to city codes and public work projects, and Mr. Patton and Mr. Hoch will share ways the community can help address city issues. The forum will be from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Heinz-Menaker Senior Center, located at 1824 N. 4th St.

UPDATE: On 1/12 Mr. Patton informed us he will be unable to attend due to other city committments. We have inquired about the availability of an alternate regarding codes issues.

January Beautification Meeting

2011 Holiday Decorating Contest

Friends of Midtown’s 4th annual holiday decorating contest recognizes those who use their properties to bring a little holiday cheer. Entries can be residences, institutions, or blocks. To enter, send name, e-mail or phone number, and address to beautification@friendsofmidtown.org or PO Box 5291, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Entries are due by December 16, will be photographed by 12/18 and winners will be announced by the end of the month.

Annual Meeting to be Held on January 24

The Friends of Midtown Annual Meeting will be held the evening of Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at Stage on Herr, 268 Herr Street. The annual meeting gives Midtown residents an opportunity to meet each other, as well as the FOM executive board. The executive board will report on the past year’s successes and present goals for the coming year. Both members and non-members are welcome. We encourage new members to sign up and existing members who need to renew their memberships to do so at the meeting.

FOM Board Tours The 1500 Project

In early November, the Vartan Group gave FOM board members a tour of The 1500 Project at the corner of 6th & Reily streets. The 1500 Project will be a 5-story, mixed-use building with condominium residences and street-level restaurant and retail space. Construction began in September 2010, and units should be ready for occupancy in 2012.

Block Party Pics

The Midtown Block Party on 9/24 was a ton of fun and FOM was really excited to see and meet so many great neighbors from the Midtown area. There were food and drink, live entertainment, games and lots of dancing. We also announced the winners of our Paint the Plugs contest.

Town Hall Meeting in Midtown

Mayor Thompson is hosting a town hall meeting in Midtown Monday night from 6-8pm at the United Methodist Church, 1801 N. 3rd St. to discuss “The City of Harrisburg Moving Forward.” It will be a group discussion open to the public.
