Paint Midtown 2006

Reily Street

Those peripatetic, crazy Friends of Midtown are at it again. The guerilla redevelopers have taken over more found space in Midtown to create 2 new shows for GALLERY WALK '06 on Sunday, Sept. 10th from 11am to 6pm. Spaces lent them by WCI Partners at 1417 and 1419 N. 3rd St. have been turned into Midtown's, and indeed Harrisburg's, hottest, most forward looking galleries.

While FOM will be presenting 27 plein air artists painting Midtown LIVE on Sunday (a house tour without walls and no admission), gallery walkers will also be able to view the artists' works at 1417 N. 3rd St. in a show called Midtown Squared: creating a small scene, which will feature small affordable works of art in a 6x6" and 8x8" format.

Next door @ 1419 N. 3rd, film and video artists Tara Chickey and Andrew Guth of Mantis Gallery and Caleb Smith of Moviate will be creating Exposed Appropriations, a distinctive, site specific, multimedia art exhibit to be on display from Sept. 10--27, 2006, in a space created by Harrisburg designers Jeff Johnson of Albert Michaels Conservation, Amy Welsh, of Surface Studios; and Neil Choquette of Neil Choquette Upholstery.

Front Street

Then, on Fri., Sept. 22 from 6pm to 9pm, FOM will be hosting a reception where guests can view all the plein air works created by the artists on Gallery Walk day, enjoy food and wine under the beautiful Catalpa tree in the garden, and be wowed by the music of the Gadjo Playboys. We hope you'll find time to join us in MIDTOWN: the heART of the City!

Gallery Walk maps showing artist locations will be available at the following Midtown locations: the Midtown Cinema, Riverside Framing, Jupi’s Gallery, the Midtown Scholar, Fissel’s Furniture, the Broad Street Market and Alvaro's Italian Bakery—all in the heart of Midtown.

Over 100 Gallery Walkers visited all five Midtown Galleries and Fissel & Co. on Sunday, Sept. 10 to get their Midtown flyer stamped at each location. Margaret S. Wilson of Green St. in Hbg. and Tom Benner of Millerstown were the winners of the framed "winter" print by 7 Lively Artist EARL BLUST, Thomas Connolly of Kelker St. in Harrisburg won the print "Hershey Memories" by John Davis.

Supported by the Dauphin County Commissioners through the Dauphin County Office of Community and Economic Development.
