HACC To Expand Midtown Campus
On Friday, April 20th, plans for the new Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) campus in Midtown were unvieled in an announcement by Mayor Stephen R. Reed and HACC President Dr. Edna V. Baehre.
According to the information released, the 130,000 sq ft Evangelical Press building at the corner of 3rd and Reily Streets will undergo a $14 million revitalization featuring new classroom and laboratory space. The existing Community Center for Technology and the Arts (CCTA) building at 4th and Reily Streets will also be expanded.
Parking with 700 spaces will be added between the two buildings, which will be connected on one side by an "urban meadow" -- a landscaped greenspace and foot path along what is currently Boyd Street.
Below are some concept drawings and plans for the new campus:
More information to come.
What Do You Think?
Friends of Midtown is working with HACC and Powers & Associates to host an open community forum at the old Evangelical Press Building sometime in June 2006. Here, the people of Midtown will have a chance to ask questions, learn more about the project and what it means for all of us.
In the mean time, please share what you think on our forums!
Thanks to HACC, Powers & Associates, Kairos Design Group and the City of Harrisburg for the images above.
